In school, we are learning aboout different culters, and how we shouldnt judge other other culters because everyone has different culteral standards. And im not just talking about food and art and such, i mean, like, how you greet people, how the law is enfoced, your conception of what is beautiful, and so on. Well, my world cultures teacher asked us what we thought of as an abnormal person. The room was silent, so she continued, "Maybe the kid who listens to metal, weres all black, acts goth..." someone else piped up "always depressed," and my teacher laughed and said "i dont think they're depressed, i think they just like being sad," It was just a little, and possibly true joke aimed only at a stereotype. But it made me realize that while people (for the most part) consider it wrong to look down on other races, cultures, and religions, its normal and aceptable to make fun of subcultures. Also people who dont have a religion, but still have very strong beliefs about life and death do not have equal rights to express these beliefs. Why is it ok to be cruel and close minded in some cases, and illegal in others?!
